Recent Work
In the past few years, our teams have negotiated acquisitions, joint ventures, and complex partnerships among companies in the US, Europe, Asia and Africa, including:
- the acquisition and forward management of a popular London theater and its recent disposition.
- a potential merger between a US metals broker and a UK specialty steel manufacturer.
- advising a South African developer of innovative data services to be offered throughout Southern Africa on how to obtain foreign financing and implement a smarter corporate structure.
- the contest for and acquisition of a direct e-mail marketing company with a 20 million member database.
We have done a lot of other things besides M&A too.
We have:
- secured several major employment discrimination awards reaching into the tens of millions of dollars, including several of the largest negotiated settlements for employment discrimination ever received by individuals in the United States from professional services firms.
- created and implemented innovative offshore plans for individuals, companies and hedge funds seeking to optimize tax efficiencies.
- successfully settled a long-standing dispute between a member of a foreign royal family and a British bank, which was represented by a “Magic Circle” firm that employed dogged but ultimately unavailing delaying tactics.
- advised a number of start-ups in information technology, medical and lifestyle devices, research analytics, ultrahigh fidelity audio and media relations, in seven jurisdictions. We have also represented a company developing an innovative internet portal for directors and producers to locate ideal sites and props for films.
- fought to overturn an arbitration award obtained through perjury and illegally withheld evidence, part of which was revealed by a whistleblower professor at Harvard Medical School.
- represented an entrepreneur embroiled in a media-sensationalized love-and-murder conspiracy triangle, negotiating with prosecutors in the investigation of allegations against our client.
- brought together and managed an international consortium of developers, architects, financiers and “green” technology experts to devise a proposal for constructing a “green” office building overlooking the Thames River in London.
- advised a hedge fund executive who discovered that his firm had possibly broken the law about how to protect his own standing while also persuading the firm to face into its problems.
- worked closely with local counsel in the litigation of a liability case against a major hotel chain for personal injuries caused by a hazard in a guest room.
- investigated whether the 2008 armed conflict between Russia and Georgia might permit individual victims of violence to sue in US courts for violations of international humanitarian law.
