McAllister Olivarius client Dr Emma Chapman speaks out against NDAs

Dr Emma Chapman has told MPs that NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) are “‘routinely’ used to cover up allegations of improper sexual behavior,” in evidence presented to the Women and Equalities Committee as part of its inquiry into NDAs. Dr Chapman was harassed by a male academic at University College London and received a £70,000 settlement. She then sued the University to remove the confidentiality clause from the settlement after her reputation suffered when she was unable to speak out about what had happened.

McAllister Olivarius also warned MPs that “current over-use of NDAs promotes systemic discrimination and harassment, and fails to afford fair and adequate protection to those affected”.
