A report released yesterday by Mary Jo White of Debevoise & Plimpton not surprisingly cleared its ultimate client, the University of Rochester, of legal liability despite finding that it had exhibited poor judgement in dealing with multiple incidents of sexual harassment by Professor Florian Jaeger. The University paid $4.5 million to Debevoise & Plimpton for the report.
The EEOC complainants, alongside Dr Olivarius, held a press conference to respond. Dr Olivarius pointed out that the investigators had not spoken to any of the complainants despite their being central actors in the events being assessed. She noted, "Many critical witnesses have been ignored. Their stories haven’t been told. But we can’t even tell, because [White's] methodology, the protocol that she’s used to conduct the investigation has not been revealed to us. There is no transparency."
